The Rover “Perseverance” is expected to land on Mars on Thursday. This has been the riskiest step towards the legendary quest to bring back rocks that could answer whether life ever existed on the planet.
The decent of Perseverance to Mar’s surface is a long dangerous journey for incoming spacecrafts. Ground controllers will anxiously await the signal that will confirm the successful decent to Mars – It take a whopping 11 and a 1/2 minutes for the confirmation signal to reach Earth.
A successful landing would mark the 3rd visit to Mars in just over a week. A Chinese and United Arav Emirates spacecraft also wrapped into orbit around Mars last week. All three of these missions launched in July in order to take advantage of Earth and Mars close alignment.
According to NASA, Perseverance is the largest and most advanced rover in history that NASA has sent. This will be the ninth US spacecraft to successfully land on the red planet.
