After the extreme and deadly weather that hit Texas earlier this month, the IRS announced that it would be extending the deadline to June 15 for Texas residents.
Everything came to a stop when millions of the state’s residents were without power and clean water for several days. At least 40 people died as a result from the storm, leaving residents, and many other people throughout America, outraged.
The tax relief is part of a coordinated federal response to the damage caused by these extreme storms. This extension will apply to all individuals and businesses residing in Texas along with some who live outside of Texas who work within the state, such as relief effort workers. This means that nearly 10% of taxpayers will be under a grace period this year.
