Earlier this week, chief medical adviser, Anthony Fauci, gave a warning that Americans should not get complacent when it comes to following Covid safety protocols just because new positive cases are plateauing. While not wanting to prevent people from exercising their social liberties, Fauci expressed concern over getting Covid numbers down to a safe level and getting more people vaccinated before loosening up on the reigns.

At the moment, the country is “plateauing” or leveling off at an average of 70,000 new cases per day. The fact that numbers are leveling off is encouraging, but not enough to say we are in the clear.

Fauci, therefore, stressed the importance of Americans continuing to follow public health measures like wearing masks, social distancing, avoiding large gatherings, and maintaining good hygiene.

Additionally, with the increase in available vaccines, more of the population should have access to vaccinations in the coming months which should aid in decreasing new cases even further. There’s reason to be hopeful, but top experts signify that the United States is not out of the woods just yet.
